Pristina Mayor Rama Highlights Improvements at Elderly Care Home: “Every citizen deserves dignity in old age”

Pristina, September 13, 2025 – The Mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, has paid a visit to the city’s Elderly Care Home, where he met with residents and inspected ongoing improvements in infrastructure and services. His visit underscored the municipality’s growing focus on strengthening social care institutions and ensuring that senior citizens receive the attention they deserve.

Speaking during the visit, Rama emphasized that providing dignity and proper care for the elderly is a priority for the capital’s administration. “Our seniors are the foundation of our society. It is our responsibility to make sure they are cared for, respected, and included. For this reason, we have added new medical staff, nurses, and technical workers to improve the quality of service,” he stated.

According to municipal officials, recent investments include renovations of the home’s courtyard, common areas, and several living quarters. The upgrades are intended not only to modernize the facility but also to create a more welcoming atmosphere where residents can spend time together, socialize, and feel part of the community.

Residents welcomed the improvements, expressing appreciation for the changes. Some noted that better maintenance and the presence of additional staff have already made a positive difference in their daily lives. “It feels good to know we are not forgotten,” said one elderly resident, thanking both staff members and the municipality for their efforts.

The mayor also highlighted the broader strategy of Pristina’s local government, which includes expanding support for other social institutions, such as centers for persons with disabilities and community-based welfare services. “We are working to align our social services with European standards. This is not just about buildings and infrastructure—it is about providing warmth, security, and respect for people who have given so much to society throughout their lives,” Rama added.

The Elderly Care Home in Pristina currently accommodates dozens of residents, many of whom rely entirely on the institution for housing, healthcare, and social support. With Kosovo’s population gradually aging, the demand for such services is expected to rise in the coming years. Municipal leaders argue that investments made today are essential to ensuring sustainability and fairness in the social care system.

Rama concluded his visit by thanking the staff for their dedication and encouraging continuous collaboration between the municipality, families, and healthcare professionals. “Together, we can make sure that our elderly citizens live their later years with the dignity and comfort they deserve,” he said.
